Propose an experiment

Deadlines:

If you wish to propose an experiment at the RIBF, please visit the official RIBF web page:

 http://www.nishina.riken.jp/RIBF/NP-PAC/index.html

Spokespersons are generally invited to submit a summary of their planned proposals at least three weeks before the submission-deadline to the SUNFLOWER or SAMURAI collaborations. If MINOS is to be used, draft proposals may be transmitted to the MINOS technical and collaboration boards to eventually address technical or experimental challenges. Their content will be kept confidential within the members of these boards.

It is foreseen that proponents distribute a first draft of their proposal two weeks before the submission-deadline to their respective collaboration.

Suggestions, contacts and links for proposals:

Recommended primary beam intensities for proposals can be found at:

 http://www.nishina.riken.jp/RIBF/accelerator/tecinfo.html

For secondary beam rate calculations, please visit:

 http://www.nishina.riken.jp/RIBF/BigRIPS/intensity.html

When available, please use experimental cross-sections for your LISE++ calculations, in particular for secondary beams produced by fission fragments. The maximum total beam rate for good particle identification through the BigRIPS/ZeroDegree spectrometers is a few times ten thousand particles per second. Therefore, especially in induced fission experiments the first dipole has to be set to larger Brho values than momentum the distribution's maximum, thereby reducing the intensity for the secondary beam of interest.

The DALI2 efficiency and energy resolutions without add-back are available on the SUNFLOWER website. Please be aware that further losses may be caused by the use of an additional 1 mm of Sn shielding for heavier nuclei. Furthermore, the experiments will suffer from losses due to dead-time, tracking efficiency, atomic background, etc.

A dedicated GEANT4 simulation code can be found on:

 http://ribf.riken.jp/~pieter/shogun/

The experimental management team can provide you with detailed information on the "loss factors" that should be employed for the gamma-ray yield estimations on a case-by-case basis. Spokespersons are encouraged to make conservative estimations for their proposals. Most crucial are Coulomb excitation experiments due to the required tracking at F8 and the atomic background, while for experiments using MINOS or other thick secondary targets the survival probabilities of the secondary beam and the knock-out residues have to be considered.
